Millennial Translator Course

By 2030, more than 75% of the workforce will be Millennials. I’ve heard talk about Millennials as though they're an alien race, or an advanced lab-created experiment that tragically ended up with mixed results. Obviously, Millennials, myself included, face unique well-researched challenges. And with insightful understanding, we can be assets to the corporate world.

Amanda Hammet was born at the end of Gen X and the beginning of the Millennial Generation. For many people on the cusp of change like Amanda, she has a great depth of perception into the traits that make up older and younger groups of American society.

This is the introduction to Amanda’s video series wherein she teaches Millennial professionals the soft skills that are essential to lead corporate America. I was video producer and it was a special privelage to think through Amanda’s material while I edited the 6-part series. I was responsible for design assets, motion graphics, overlays, green screen effects and ultimately the final compositions.

CEO Netweavers Symposium

A collection of related design projects during my time freelancing for the CEO Netweavers group of Atlanta, Georgia. It’s an example of one of the more rewarding print design projects as I took a few queues from their logo and expanded the character and expression of the brand. I was also able to update their print collateral to better fit with the executive class feel of the brand and make the messaging surrounding servant leadership easy to read and understand.

Teddy Bear Portrait Studio

Parents need a quick and fun experience at the portrait studio, as much as their children do. A hallmark of a good portrait studio is to provide the experience that let’s customers leave feeling, Wow, did that just happen? Boy, that was easy! Teddy Bear Portraits has an energetic appeal that hits the mark.

Teddy Bear Portraits needed a video loop for visitors to watch in the waiting area. From storyboard to the final cut, I worked with them to highlight steps of the process and special offers of their portrait packages.

This was a time when I realized the brand’s messaging was strong. I only needed to amplify it and stay on point for the viewers—parents with children—who have much on their minds and short attention spans.

Video Marketing Infographic

Last year, I was introduced to Adobe Character Animator. vLink Solutions was excited to bring to life The Grinch, Charlie Brown, and Frosty the Snowman in an end-of-year video Christmas spectacular. I created the cartoon characters and animated them in a Roger Rabbit like live action/cartoon mash-up.

In January we set out again. Who would pass up the opportunity to create a cartoon for work? A member of vLink’s team, Lucas Freeman, handed me the script for The Mad Science of Video Marketing and this infographic became part of the project.

Through several hours of research and iteration, I designed each section of the infographic with the data. It was a treat to illustrate Dr. Von Haufferstein, who I originally created to be a female mad scientist. She would be more original, but I later concluded a more familiar male mad scientist was in keeping with the thematic elements.

‘Mobile Apps’ Infomercial

From legacy systems to cutting edge mobile solutions, Pyramid Solutions helps companies  prepare for tomorrow while ensuring their business is part of a current, compatible, and productive IT infrastructure.

Infographics are powerful content marketing tools, and better yet, motion graphics distills information and retains viewer attention. The target audience stays on point for video infographics for more time and the impression lasts longer than the average blog post or infographic poster image.

I emphasized the user interfaces of digital platforms through iconography and tied the data to the illustrations with color and motion.

Nehemiah Foundation Logo

Originally, the founder of The Nehemiah Foundation for Cultural Renewal started his organization to help artists create original music. Over the years his efforts were successful and he added writing, poetry, other arts and education to their mission. It started to confuse his team and their followers and people didn’t know what all the foundation was producing.

When the client asked me to redesign the logo, the team began to restructure the foundation. In the midst of the design phase, the directors chose to split The Nehemiah Foundation in two. The original foundation would live on, and the half focused on education became Renew The Arts.

Ideas for the redesign forked in two, as I’ve represented here. The two at the top are the final designs and the rest are mockups I created throughout the project cycle.

TramBed Truck Bed Extensions

In 2007, Trambed announced the debut of their innovative truck bed extension system, the TramBed. TramBed is the first truck bed extension system to utilize a patented system of telescoping frame, sealed bearings, adjustable legs and safety locks to deliver a tool that’s heavy duty, easy to use and safer than cantilevered solutions.

I worked with the engineers and directed the camera shots that present the hardware in an active narrative. The color pallette and textured typeface call attention to the tool that gives standard trucks an extra leg up, so to speak. I produced videos introducing the TramBed as well as how-to content that ellaborates on how TramBed is installed and used in the field.

😮 All 69 New Emojis for 2017

On June 20, The Unicode Consortium released version 10.0 of the Unicode Standard. The code points required for new emoji support are now considered final and stable to be included in updates from major vendors such as Apple, Google, Microsoft or Samsung.

With Emojipedia, I produced a video presentation of what the new emojis might look like when they’re added to mobile operating systems later this year. The all-new emojis, such as *Bearded Person* and T-Rex, add a wider range of emojis for all to enjoy.

The designs seen here are from the Emojipedia Sample Image collection, demonstrating how these emojis might look when released. I kept the presentation close to the heart of the Emojipedia branding and boosted the walkthrough with an energetic pace.

‘Driving Engagement’ Talk

Scott Williford presented a TED-like talk entitled Driving Engagement with Sight & Sound at vLink’s Speaker Showcase.  As an expert in video marketing, Scott lays out 8 key factors to drive more engagement with online video.

I worked closely with Scott to deliver his slides the way we envisioned and gave them special updates for the video’s audience. I also enhanced lighting effects to add depth to the auditorium seen in the final cut. For the intro I used inspiration from the talk to choose footage that evoked the engagement video can drive.

Apple Product Icons

My parents laid the foundation for my design career in 1993 when they invested in my home education with a Macintosh Performa computer. I quickly realized it was the creative tools on my Mac that cultivated my passion for creativity and sparked my imagination.

Never underestimate the sleek and simple slabs of metal that the Apple product lineup is today. They’re elegant power tools that are a joy to use.

‘Hero Tales’ Cover

Henry Cabot Lodge met Theodore Roosevelt when the two young men first came to Washington D.C. Both men eventually were to go on to have stellar careers and leave marks on American history.

Just a few years after they met, they co-wrote this collection of historical profiles and vignettes. It was their favorite project, and it remained much so throughout their lives. Ted, the firstborn of Roosevelt’s brood, asserts: “This book not only provides portraits of a fistful of American heroes, it portrays the way a collaborative friendship can shape the destiny of a nation.”

Podcasts Cover Art

I’ve designed covers for clients as well as those for my shows. One I designed for Anxious Machine was featured in iTunes in 2015. My podcasts’ covers are a great opportunity for me to explore design techniques and leverage new styles.

I fell in love with the podcast medium in 2007 when I subscribed two a few on my iPod Touch. I hosted my first show in 2012. It’s a fun hobby and a way to give back to the Internet community at large. If you have something you can share that will help others, people are eager to learn and be entertained.
