A La Carte (June 12)

Tesla Motors is Patent-free - They want other car manufactuerers to take advantage of clean technologies sooner than later. This is a very bold move, and I respect them for their approach. I would love to see the patent industry change.

The History of Flat Design - Rich design, flat, design, minimal design… it’s all laid out here, so you can make sense of responsive design and Apple’s app design trends.

Everything that is Wrong with the Share Icon - This is a hard look at one of the more perplexing icons that designers haven’t mastered. The share icon is different on all platforms, and there is little consensus of what it should look like.

1950s Computer Brochures - Computers were so foreign back then, it must have been difficult for designers to illustrate them. These brochure designs are interesting for their historical value, but otherwise they do nothing for me.

He was Stuck in the Airport Overnight, so he made a Music Video - Proves you don’t have to be pop singer to reach 11 million views. Perhaps the most unlikely guy to make one, but he had his iPhone and there wasn’t anything else to do, I guess. I might make a music video under the same circumstances.
