Dropbox Wants the Whole Widget

Dan Frommer points out the ever-growing ambition of Dropbox, and what it means for an OS coming to a computer near you:

Dropbox has storage and sync, and now a growing collection of apps: Mailbox, which is expanding to the desktop, and nowCarousel, a photo- and video- sharing app. Expect more of these consumer and business productivity apps — both homemade and via acquisition. The Dropbox OS is taking shape.

Dropbox is a good business when they aren’t buying and shutting down my favorite apps, like Loom.

If you’re interested in the developments in spite of their scariness, you might want to sign up for the beta program of Mailbox for Mac, which is expected to be released soon. Everyone will be talking about it for sure. Sign up at the foot of the Mailbox site.
