A Cup of Coffee for Ants

Wednesday on the coffee podcast, I discussed personal tastes and Keurig coffee makers with Eric Rauch.

Shaun at Basecamp produced a video wherein employees taste tested McCafe coffee and high-end freshly roasted coffee. Both were brewed with a Chemex. The conclusions of the taste testers were awkwardly inconclusive.

As for Keurigs, I feel that they are inescapable for many coffee drinkers. They are superior to electric drip machines in some ways and they serve a lot of convenience for an individual cup of joe. Where I feel they are grossly disappointing is in terms of the quality of what you taste in the brew. Sure, they are wasteful and in some ways expensive brewing machines, but it’s the flavors that trouble me most from a Keurig.

All in all, a great show. Take a listen at TopBrew.fm, or download/subscribe on iTunes.
